Oaks of Righteousness that He may be Glorified!
'Rock-Solid Families' is a wonderful book for families with young children. It would be great for MOPS organizations and small group studies.
Each chapter of the book details an essential element that will help parents produce a rock solid family. The chapters also include illustrations, bible verses, charts and ideas to help form the principle introduced in that chapter. It is a "how to" book. This is extremely helpful for parents trying to raise children in our postmodern secular world. There is a wonderful biblical worldview throughout the book.
I appreciate the author's desire to help families "Transform an ordinary home into a fortress of faith." The chapters on order, love, obedience, and personal quiet time are wonderful. The author shares many personal illustrations from her own life.
Reader, you will definitely like this book and find it very helpful if you are raising a family or plan to soon. Do not try to tackle every foundational step laid out all at once. Read the book. Then pick out a few of the chapters to get started on. Complete one a week or one a month. Some may be easier than others. This is a building process that takes time and intentional effort.
Kudos to the author for writing a `tool' to help young families grow spiritually minded and become Rock Solid!

"Rock-Solid Families" is the product of Janell Rardon's twenty years of ministry, research, personal experience, and her observation of successful Christian families. The book reveals insight into what strong spiritual families have in common.
The book is built on twelve foundation stones. Each chapter deals with one of these important foundational principles that will help build solid families. The first chapter begins with the need for vision and a written family mission statement. Values, purpose and determination all play a part in establishing the focus for this vision.
Chapter endnotes provide additional references and reading. These reinforce Janell's research and provide opportunity for further study. The illustrations, charts, and exercises add to the value of the book as a practical study guide on parenting. The book is Biblically based, strong in spiritual application with a practical approach to parenting. Or as the subtitle of the book suggests, it is about "Transforming an Ordinary Home into a Fortress of Faith."
Janell shares illustrations from her own life and the lessons she has learned through these experiences. I appreciated her openness and vulnerability in sharing from her heart. I, personally, found the chapters on devotion, prayer, spiritual success, and obedience especially meaningful and challenging. The suggested action steps in these chapters are helpful for planning future devotional times for both family worship times and personal quiet times. Additional suggestion are provided in an important appendix.
Janell is a natural communicator, and an articulate writer. She beautifully weaves a pattern of spirituality with a practicality that invites the reader to apply the twelve foundations stones to building their own "Rock-Solid Families."
