A Blue Mind Ambassador Wanna Be!

How have I not heard of Wallace J. Nichols, PhD?

I love his new book and his new initiative: 100 Days of Blue.

This is one morning I am grateful I turned on the TV. CBS News ran his story and blew my mind.

I’ve been preaching about the negative ions floating in the air around oceans and waterfalls and lakes and rivers….since I published my first book in 2007. In fact, I was pretty obsessed with the idea.

After an anniversary trip to Bermuda, I wrote,

“While stealing some ‘alone time’ in Bermuda, my husband and I spent eight days in a cabana that jutted out over the crystal clear, sparkling BLUE water of the Atlantic Ocean. No air conditioning. No screens on the window. Only the fresh ocean breezes to keep us cool. Upon arriving at this cabana, I thought to myself, ‘No way. Eight days without air-conditioning and screens? This ought to be fun. Rob didn’t say we were going camping in Bermuda. What in the world was this man thinking?’ But that night, when the negative ions of the Atlantic Ocean permeated our room, I slept more soundly than I had in a very long time. Now I am not a scientist, but I do know there is something pretty spectacular about ocean air. A novice researcher at best, that is for sure, but I had found data and studies that confirmed my notion. The air that circulates in the mountains or at the beach is said to ‘contain tens of thousands of negative ions—much more than the average home or office building, which contain dozens or hundreds, and many register a flat zero.'”

Way back in 2006-2007, I was convinced. And now in 2014, there is real scientific, validated proof that is indeed TRUE.

I am excited. No wonder I haven’t been able to stop talking about my time under that dang beach umbrella (smile).

Let’s Do Blue!

In Rock-Solid Families, I asked myself and my readers a simple question, “Is your life…your home…registering a flat zero in the serenity category?”

Back then, I had to admit, “Yes.”

Today, I think I am doing much better and am highly intentional to do even better. I have to. My body is insisting I do so.

I believe this is a necessary question, especially as a brand new school year approaches. A brand new church season begins. How can we serve our families, our schools, our jobs, our churches and our communities if we are empty? Responsibilities compound, obligations mount, and all of a sudden we find ourselves in the midst of the whirlwind, drained of any positive emotion. Why? Because in the midst of the whirlwind, we forget to take care of ourselves and our relationship to God.

So it seems I’ve actually been a BLUE MIND AMBASSADOR sharing the BLUE MIND MESSAGE way before it actually become an initiative. Who knew?

Do yourself a big favor and if possible take a few minutes to consider how you are doing before the speed of life begins again. Watch this short video and SOAK in some negative ions…we have a lot of water around us (smile). I’m heading to the OBX for a short overnight with our dear Candace Rose, so I’ll definitely be breathing in those negative ions…..
