Leaving a Legacy.

Dove has done it again.

I give DOVE a standing O for the astounding messages they are choosing to send out to mothers and daughters everywhere.

Just today they announced their new campaign, “Legacy.” I about fell over when I saw it because I have been surveying and seeking and studying this topic this past month.

One incredible insight I gained from the “Inside a Woman’s World” Survey came from the question, “What one thing would you change about yourself?” Just look at the replies:

  • Emotional Health: 50%
  • Spiritual Health: 26.92%
  • Marital Issues: 15.38%
  • Parenting Issues: 15.38%
  • Appearance: 11.54%
  • Personality: 11.54%
  • Age: 7.69%

I was shocked, yet validated, that emotional health came out in fast first.

Leaving a Legacy.

A Mother of Two Daughters

As a mother of two daughters, I hope and pray that I am leaving them a God-sized legacy filled to overflowing with all things healthy.

When I watched this video, I couldn’t help but think about raising my two girls. You would have to ask them about their upbringing, but I know one thing for sure.

I was intentional and highly cognizant about NOT transferring my own insecurities and low self-esteem down to them. With God’s help, I was able to speak life to them in those areas.

All the years in competitive dance and beauty pageants made me even more hyper-vigilant about several things:

  • No Glamour, Seventeen, Vogue, etc. magazines in our house, especially when they are young and impressionable.
  • No comparisons to others. We nipped that in the bud with a whole lot of conversation and Bible reading—wholeheartedly committed to 2 Corinthians 10:12. Check it out!
  • No tearing down one another. Not in our house. That happens enough outside in the “real” world. Once again, Ephesians 4:29, became a watchword.

I’m sure there were others, but those topped the list.

How’s your Emotional Health?

If I am honest, which I am, the last four years in my life have been the toughest yet. My girls would attest to this fact.

There are many, many, many reasons—but no excuses.

Our legacies can’t be built on excuses.

I’ve reached out for help and gotten it.

Friends and family have prayed and prayed some more.

I’m happy to report that I am so much better. I feel stronger than ever and now 100% committed to helping other women find their way.

Maybe you need to find your way.

I urge you to do so.

You are not alone. Reach out and ask for help. Pick up the phone and dial the number.

And most of all, always remember that God is a breath away. Just say his name.

Take a few moments to watch Legacy. Share it with everyone you know.

Leaving a legacy is what life is all about.

P.S. It’s not too late to take our survey. Please do! We thank you in advance.
