Emotion regulation involves a coherent relationship with the self, specifically effective communication between body, mind, and feelings. Effective emotion regulation involves the ability to accurately detect and evaluate cues related to physiological reactions to stressful events, accompanied by appropriate regulation strategies that temper and influence the emotional response. There is compelling evidence demonstrating links between poor or disrupted awareness of sensory information, or interoceptive awareness, and difficulties with emotion regulation.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5985305/pdf/fpsyg-09-00798.pdf
Reimagining the Mind-Body Connection
This beautiful conversation with Author Ronda Barney reminded me of the resilience of the human spirit.
As we talked, our conversation unfolded into a powerful invitation to consider how our bodies speak to us.
Ronda honestly opens up about how she ignored the signals, like many of us, and thought, “I just need another cup of coffee.”
Meet Author Ronda Barney, LCSW
Here in Season 8, Episode 10, meet Ronda Barney. As she reads from her new book, “Dear Susan: Letters of Comfort and Hope for Women Facing Life-Changing Illnesses,” allow the words to lead you toward a deepening relationship with your body. As I say in the episode, the book is written for those facing life-challenging illnesses, but it is so applicable to each one of us.
