“Every sunset creates a new dawn.”Â
For over twenty years, my husband and I have been coming to the OUTER BANKS of North Carolina for rest and recovery. One of our favorite things to do is to look at the signs posted in front of beach houses. You know, the sandblasted type, which announces the name of the cottage. Today, as I walked, I was intrigued by them, once again: “Simply Paradise”, “Livin’ Large”, “Blackbeard’s Treasure”, to name a few, and “Amazing Grace,” the one we have been blessed to live in for a week. My husband and I decided if we ever had a beach house we would have to call it, “IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE!” named lovingly after the Jimmy Stewart classic Christmas movie. A tale of one man’s ups and downs in life, it resonates hope, healing and the power of family.Â
So, I was thinking, if you had a beach house, what might you call it? It seems the owners put a great deal of thought into the name. Or better yet, if you could put a sign in front of your house, declaring your life’s message, what might it be? Loving the Journey? Learning to Be Still? Sweet Contentment? Pressin’ In, Pressin’ On?Â

Shiloh (a place of gathering, when He comes) or Beth-EL (House of God) I love names on homes, and think it can set the character of the dwelling, and certainly reflects the hearts of the people within.
I couldn’t watch “It’s A Wonderful Life” for about 17 years…too many GOOD memories that I couldn’t deal with. (I was just talked into watching it last Christmas, and I think I finally overcame my sadness. Perhaps that is silly, but it is the truth.) Anyway, it is a good name, that is for sure, for a beach house. The movie makes one pause to reflect on one’s blessings, and puts things into perspective. Besides, as Providence would have it, though we are not promised a bed of roses all the time, we still do have it sooo good!
“A man is rich as long as he has friends”….and that goes for women, too! In my wonderful life, I count you as one of the best!
And, remember, if you get a beach house, and name it as such, make sure you put up chimes of little bells so that tons of angels can get their wings! 🙂
